Dreame L40 Ultra Gen 2 Robot Vacuum and Mop Review: Would Owners Buy It Again?

How this review was made: We did not test this robot in person. This verdict is based on our analysis of expert reviews and spec sources, all listed at the end of this article. Long-term reliability data is thin for this newer model, and we say so below. Our method.

Depends

A premium dock-and-mop robot best for tidy, mostly hard-floor homes

The L40 Ultra Gen 2 pairs 25,000 Pa suction, a very large battery and a dock that empties the bin, washes and dries the mop and refills water. Vacuum Chef praised its coverage, mopping and app, but measured poor obstacle avoidance and weaker carpet airflow than average, and noted the second generation drops some features of the original. It is premium-priced, so the value case depends on your home: strong for hard floors, less convincing if you have pets, cords and clutter, or want the cheapest competent option.

Buy it again if you…

  • have mostly hard floors and want hands-off vacuuming and mopping
  • want a big battery and a dock that handles most upkeep
  • like deep app control and smart-home support

Skip it if you…

  • have a cluttered floor with cords, socks or pet accidents
  • have thick carpet and want top carpet cleaning
  • want a low-cost robot vacuum without a self-cleaning dock

The Dreame L40 Ultra Gen 2 is a robot vacuum and mop with an all-in-one dock. It uses LiDAR navigation, lists 25,000 Pa of suction, and the dock empties the dustbin, washes and dries the mop pads and refills the water tank.

This is a newer model, so we found a handful of hands-on tests and no strong multi-year reliability data. We flag where evidence is thin.

What reviewers like

Battery and coverage.Vacuum Chef rated its battery coverage as leading its category, with roughly 5,920 sq ft on hard floors at low suction.
Mopping and dock. The dual rotary mop did well, especially on vinyl plank, leaving streak-free floors, and an extension arm helps reach edges. The dock automates most upkeep.
A deep app.Routines, no-go zones, multi-floor maps and Matter support make it one of the reviewer's favorite apps, though it has a learning curve.

What reviewers criticize

Obstacle avoidance is weak.Vacuum Chef scored it 30 percent against a 66 percent average and found it nearly nonexistent on carpet. RTINGS, comparing against a rival, described the Dreame family as better at guiding around hazards, so reports are mixed.
Carpet airflow and sand.Carpet airflow was below the category average in one test, and pickup of sand was only about 60 percent, though coffee grounds and cat litter pickup was 90 percent and 98 percent.
Gen 2 trims features. The same reviewer says the second generation drops the RGB camera, LED light, automatic mop pad removal and the included solution tank, calling it a rebalancing rather than a straight upgrade.
Size and upkeep. The robot and dock are large, and the dock needs regular maintenance.

How it holds up over time

We found no long-term durability test of this model. The listed warranty is three years, which is reassuring, but robot vacuums have many small moving parts such as brushes, mop pads, sensors and pumps. Expect to replace consumables regularly.

Is the premium worth it?

For a tidy hard-floor home where you want vacuuming, mopping and cleaning pads to happen without you, the dock and battery justify a premium. If your floor is often cluttered or you have pets, weaker obstacle avoidance can undo the convenience, and a simpler robot may frustrate you less. Compare it to cheaper docks before committing.

Tips

  • Pick up cords and socks before each run until you know how it copes.
  • Set no-go zones around pet bowls and cable nests.
  • Wash the dock tray and check the mop pads on a regular schedule.

Frequently asked questions

Does the dock wash and dry the mop?

Yes. Vacuum Chef describes the dock washing the pads with hot water, drying them with hot air, refilling water and emptying the dustbin.

Is it good for pet homes?

Mixed. Reviews praise pet hair and cat litter pickup, but its obstacle avoidance scored poorly in one test, which matters if pets leave messes.

Does it work with smart-home apps?

Yes. It supports Alexa, Google Home and Matter, among others, over 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi.

How is the Gen 2 different from the original?

Vacuum Chef says it drops the RGB camera, LED light, automatic mop pad removal and included solution tank.
